I have served Portland Fire & Rescue as a Public Education officer for more than 7 years and I can say that Hazard House was great in helping me accomplish my tasks. Being responsible for 6 school districts, Hazard House was one of my essential tools to reach out to about 70,000 students.

We focused our efforts on two high-risk groups: school age children and senior citizens. With the help of the Homeland Security Fire Prevention & Safety grant, we also equipped our Learning Center with a Giant Version Hazard House. This turned out being the ideal tool for senior tour groups that visit the center regularly.

Burbank Water and Power is deeply committed to public education. As part of our ongoing efforts to better serve the Burbank community, two Modeltech products are currently being used: the Hazard Hamlet Interactive Theatre and Hazard Hamlet Display model. Raising the public's awareness of electrical safety has been made easier through the use of the Hazard Hamlet model. An audience becomes dramatically aware of hazardous situations when a display figure lights-up and gets an electrical zap. The Hazard Hamlet model is our most requested educational tool.

Burbank Water and Power is looking forward to adding two additional display units into its educational offering those being, the Smart House and the GTD simulator. Hazard Hamlet is an extremely valuable way to get the electrical safety message out. Seeing, is believing.

Craig Fata

4 years as Public Education Officer, Normal Fire Department
Exhibitor, OSFM Showcase 2000 and 2002
Speaker, 2003 IFIA Public Education Conference

As part of my job, I coordinate all public education efforts for the Normal Fire Department from extinguisher demonstrations to fire drills to classroom presentations. And I must say the Hazard House Simulator is the best all-around public education tool I've run across. Not only does it encompass all of NFPA's acclaimed Risk Watch program, its interactive nature keeps the attention of audiences of all ages. I've used the Hazard House Simulator in front of groups ranging from 5-year olds to senior citizens, and they've all been able to learn from it. After a presentation, I've had kindergarten teachers tell me they wish they could keep their kids' attention for one hour straight like I can with the Hazard House. Once that first electrical "zap" goes off, audiences never know what's going to happen next, so their attention never wanders. Kids love coming up and "installing" the smoke detectors, "moving" the dangerous items from the basement to the garage, and especially putting out the stovetop fire. The Hazard House Simulator is even more interactive than advertised in the sales pitch! In fact, I've been so impressed with it, I presented it at the 2003 Illinois Fire Inspectors Association Public Education Conference. If you're looking for something comprehensive, portable, and versatile, I'd highly recommend the Hazard House Simulator as your one-stop fire prevention arsenal.

"Even after all these years we love our Hazard House. Firefighters, Officers and Chiefs alike enjoy working with the public when provided with an engaging tool like this. We use it most often for special events, where we showcase preventive measures to avoid a fire. But it has a place also in the upper grade classrooms for students studying prevention measures."

I've held my current position as Fire Marshal for the past 7 years, but have 28 years in the fire service. In 1999 I formed the Sumner County Juvenile Fire Setter Intervention program and actively work this program throughout the county. Over the years I have developed numerous games, skits, clown acts & puppet shows trying to get the fire safety message out to the public, some being more effective than others.

The Modeltech FHH-12 Hazard House is the best ready-made tool for teaching all ages fire safety I have had the pleasure of using. Since our purchase of the Hazard House, I have made presentations to every area of the population we serve. The messages, whether they are general home safety or specific training in a certain area such as cooking safety, fire extinguisher use or consequences of fire play, are easy to present and well received due to the visual aspect of the Hazard House.
It will be a valuable asset in any Department's Public Education Program.

Burns Recovered Support Group (BRSG) is a nonprofit whose mission is to assist burn survivors in their recovery and educate the public in burn awareness and prevention.

BRSG's burn prevention program is achieved by partnering with the many fire departments in the state of Missouri. BRSG has purchased two Fire Safety Houses, purchased Learn Not to Burn books for departments to place in their school systems, and is committed to purchasing prevention education tools such as the Hazard House. BRSG believes that the Hazard House is ideal for reaching deverse groups of people, of all ages, to provide the best education possible for fire safety in and around the home. BRSG, through a lottery drawing, gives prevention education tools to fire departments in Missouri as a thank you for who having helped BRSG fundraise the money necessary to continue their good work. The Hazard House has been and will continue to be an important part of this program.

Our primary goal is to educate young children and teens about the hazards of fire or firesetting behavior. We have been using Hazard House in our programs for one year and have noticed an increase in the attention span of all who have experienced this wonderful simulator. We feel our program would be incomplete without this great educational tool. All it takes is one presentation to see firsthand how interactive your audience will become.

Modeltech Hazard House has given me a new tool to teach an old subject. The Hazard House helps keep the audience's attention at all times through the lecture. It has given me the opportunity to assess and confirm the effectiveness of my programs. It is an excellent instrument to teach the community the hazard and dangers that might injury them.

My responsibilities as Safety Education Representative(retired) were to consult, manage, direct, educate, and present Educational Safety Programs throughout the company's five county regions. These programs were presented to schools, students, boy scouts, girl scouts, civic organizations, trade shows, events, companies and corporations.

The Modeltech International incorporated Hazard Hamlet Interactive Simulator demonstration was one of the favorite programs to present to an audience. Hazard Hamlet is an easy and informative way to educate audiences about the possible dangerous hazards associated with electricity. Through the lights, electrical arcs, sounds and explanation an audience can become aware of the dangers of the unsafe use or handling of electricity. The question and answer portion of the program supports just how effective the Hazard Hamlet Electrical Safety simulator is in presenting a quality safety program. I also noticed how successful a safety tool Hazard Hamlet was by the new program request due to word of mouth and also the repeat performance requests.

I highly recommend the Hazard Hamlet, Gas Hazard House and Hazard House simulators. They are extremely useful interactive programs to promote electrical, gas and fire safety.

As an advocate of aggressive fire prevention with the CDF, I have incorporated the Hazard House into as many programs as possible. It is a hit with all age groups. The only problem with it is that the students can't get enough of it. It's portability and case of use make it a must-have to any fire prevention ensemble.

First off let me say that our Hazard House has seen many miles already and the people love it, I have been doing both the Hazard House and the Fire Safety House at schools, Fairs, Safety Fairs and the the comments are great especially when the kid gets zapped in the tub, there are a lot of adults who are being educated by this unit as they have said " I didn't know that" so we are making good progress.I have been asked to take this unit approx. 230 miles North of here to a program, and I will go as soon as I catch up here in my own area.
In your brochure it says that you have examples for successful grant requests, I am very intested in obtaining some of these as I am going to try and raise more funds.
Once again the Hazard House is better than when sliced bread was invented.

Fire Prevention Officer and Firefighter for 11 years with the long Sault Fire Dept.
2 years Chairman for the South Stormont FIre Prevention Committee.
7 years Chariman for the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry

Responsabilities include:
- fire prevention officer for the department
- fire inspector
- work with the South Stormont Committee to put public education programs in place
- involved with public education seminars for the schools and the seniors
- involved in the public education information for large gatherings (trade show)

We received from Modeltech a Hazard House in 2002 with the support from Grenville Mutual Insurance. The four fire departments have had a chance to use the education tool in the schools and at the annual South Stormont Trade Show. The outcome from the use in overwhelming with positive feedback. The Hazard House has been very successfull with the support from Modeltech International. The company has proven to be a great asset and supporter of the Hazard House in regards to the farms panels that have been implemented for the use of our two farm land area fire departments and the panels for the villages in our area as well. This educational tool is worth its weight in gold because it can be used for at least three years before it must be updated for other projects. As the Fire Prevention Officer for South Stormont, I would encourage fire departments to get involved with Modeltech to help with Public Education.
