SPIRA FIRE PREVENTION
In October '98, they donated a Hazard House unit to the Guelph Fire Prevention Bureau, dedicated to the memory of his late father and founder of the business, William Spira.

We wanted to put something back into a community that had given us so much over the years. Actually the Fire Dept. suggested the gift as preferable to a cash donation.

What impressed me most was how Hazard House captivated its audience of 8 yr-olds for close to an hour. There was so much attention and enthusiasm that the presenting officer found it hard to fit it all within his allowed time.

Once other fire departments became aware of how well the Hazard House unit was performing in the area schools, they too became interested in acquiring it's services. But the Guelph dept's schedule for its use was fully booked ... so we're now involved in looking at other ways to make funds available so that neighboring community fire departments can own their own unit.

For example, by donating percentages of our sale of sprinkler systems in these other communities to such a cause, we are also stimulating their businesses and industries to participate in this project.

Spurred on by the warm feeling we got from our donation of the Hazard House unit, we've swung onto a couple of other programs, like one helping uninsured fire victims in the region deal with their most immediate needs, like food, clothing and shelter.

People have told me "I've heard of your company from my children who have received the Hazard House presentation at school", so we are obviously also getting recognition that goes beyond our product and services.
